Karma Sherpa

I was born in a very small, isolated village in the Lower Everest region of Nepal. I grew up with very limited material resources and opportunity. I was born in a family of 9 children and had to go through a very difficult financial situation. Unfortunately, when I was 6 years my mother was suffering from a very serious illness. At that time, she couldn’t afford to go to the hospital for medical treatment in the city and there wasn’t any hospital in the region. Sadly, after being sick for about few weeks, she passed away, leaving the whole family without a mother. After her death, our family had to go through many more challenging times. When I was 14 decided to leave my home town and went to Lukla to find job to support my father. In Lukla, I got an opportunity to work as a porter with mountaineers in the mountains. I had to carry loads of 80 pounds on my back and cross over passes at 19,000 ft. This felt very challenging and was a risky job for me at that age but there was not any other choice for me. And I did trekking kitchen boy and cook in the trekking & expeditions and later, I did trekking guide, climbing guide and all required trainings to be professional guide. After training and with my experience I lead so many treks and climb including Mt. Everest. During my trip, I have seen many health related problems in country side. Mostly, I have seen women and kid’s health problem in country side like which is same problem I face when I was child, so all those thing make me to remember my childhood history. In the year 2007, I made plan to build medical health post in my village. After 5 year, I started our mission with back support of LeoPol Goven from Belgium, Amit Kotecha from UK and other friend from around the world supported us to build Community health post.

I would like to thank to all the donors for their great help and support to built the medical centre in Sotang, Nepal.

We look forward for their continuous support and assistance.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and learn more about me.
